DEFINITION OF INTERIOR DESIGN: Interior Design means designs, consultations, studies, drawings, specifications, and administration of design construction contracts relating to nonstructural interior elements of a building or structure. Interior Design includes, but is not limited to, reflected ceiling plans, space planning, furnishings, and the fabrication of nonstructural elements within and surrounding interior spaces of buildings. Interior Design specifically excludes the design of, or the responsibility, for architectural and engineering work, except for specification of fixtures and their location within interior spaces.
DEFINITION OF CERTIFIED INTERIOR DESIGNER: Certified interior designer means a person who is a certified design professional qualified by education, experience, and examination.
* Education: Completion of four years of interior design education from a Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accredited program. Once certified, continuing education units (CEUs) must be completed and submitted each year.
* Experience: Completion of a minimum of two years of full time work experience in interior design.
* Examination: Successfully pass the National Council for Interior Design Qualification examination.
RECIPROCITY: The Secretary of State shall grant certification by reciprocity. . .(if) the applicant meets both of the following requirements: Holds a valid certification or license by another authority recognized by the Secretary of State as having substantially equivalent requirements for certification. . .Holds a valid certificate number issued by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification.
REGISTERED ARCHITECTS: The Secretary of State shall grant registration to those who hold a valid license in Architecture in the state of Nebraska.
NON-EXCLUSIONARY: The bill does not prohibit the provision of interior design services or the use of the terms interior design or interior designer by a person who is not certified as an interior designer.
* Selling, selecting, or assisting in selecting personal property used in connection with the furnishing of interior spaces or fixtures. Installing or coordinating installations as part of a retail sale. Providing computer-aided or other drawings for the purpose of retail sale if the drawings are used for material listed for retail sale.
